Caño Cristales been referred as the “river of five colors,” “the river that ran away from paradise,” and “the most beautiful river in the world, as locals call it) is located in the isolated and remote area that is not easily accessible by road. The clean crystal water shows the story of color in the bottom of river rocks surrounded by green mosses.

Every year the whole river blossoms in vibrant explosion of color between dry and wet season with a unique plant known as Macarenia clavigera, that provides the red color and its combinition with green and yellow sand with clear blue water shows a stunning whirling show of colors.

Few years back this area was closed of tourism fure to some guerrilla activity but now tourist can fly fly into the nearby town of La Macarena. From there it is a short trip into “Serrania de la Macarena,” the national park in which Caño Cristales is located. [35 Pics]
